Kirsten Russell, born in Raleigh, North Carolina, began her journey dancing at 10 years old. While being a part of CC & Company Dance Complex for 8 years, she trained closely with choreographers such as Peter Chu, Martha Nichols, Jason Parsons, Lauren Adams, Travis Wall, Mandy Moore, Nick Lazzarini, Sonya Tayeh, Stacey Tookey, and Teddy Forance. Beginning at the age of 14, she expanded her training at summer intensives such as Common Arts Mutual Passion (CAMP), BodyTraffic, and Chuthis. While attending college at University of North Carolina School of the Arts, she got to continue her training outside of school under the direction of Peter Chu while assisting his second Chuthis Movement Intensive in Costa Rica. Upon leaving school she dove into creating, and began teaching and choreographing at her home studio, CC & Co. Dance Complex in Raleigh, North Carolina under the direction of Christy Curtis. Shortly after she began creating she was one of 19 choreographers chosen to compete as a finalist at the 2014 Capezio A.C.E. Awards in New York City. Inspired by her experience there, she entered again and was honored to be the winner of the 2015 Capezio A.C.E. Awards, which included $15,000 towards creating her own full length show, "Fell Only Once", which premiered in Long Beach, California in August of 2016 at DancerPalooza.. Since winning the A.C.E. Awards she has choreographed in multiple countries, featured work in Shelly Hutchinson's "The Giving Tree" in NYC, and is now a faculty member on JUMP Dance Convention. Most recently, Russell was interviewed and featured in Dance Teacher Magazine diving into the details of her process and choreographic experiences. She is more than thrilled to be a part of the JUMP family!
