Based in NYC and originally from Ottawa, Akira Uchida is a versatile dancer, choreographer, creative director, and teacher whose work bridges dance with film, animation, fashion, and photography. He has choreographed for notable music artists such as HAAi, Leon Vynehall, Saint Levant, Flyana Boss, Photay, and altrice. Recently, he was featured as a dancer with Bad Bunny on Saturday Night Live and in Ariana Grande’s “Yes, And?” music video.
Akira’s creative work also extends into the fashion industry, where he has collaborated with major brands like Nike, Reebok, Juicy Couture, Puma, Private Policy, and Lu’u Dan. His choreographic achievements include presenting work at the Capezio Ace Awards, Fire Island Dance Festival, and Battery Dance Festival. He has also created pieces for prestigious institutions such as the Juilliard School’s summer intensive, CLI Conservatory, and Joffrey Ballet School.
His recent film, “STILL,” commissioned by the Clyfford Still Museum in Denver, premiered on Nowness in 2022. Beyond his artistic and commercial work, Akira is passionate about teaching and advocacy. He regularly teaches in the NYC dance community through workshops and pop-up classes and is committed to inspiring the next generation. He is currently an artist at JUMP Dance Convention and serves as a board member at Share The Movement, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting and providing opportunities for underrepresented dancers.
